The State of Maryland has reached a final settlement of $2.25 billion with the owner and operator of the M/V Dali following the March 26, 2024 allision with the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The agreement resolves claims brought by the State and its agencies, including damages related to the bridge collapse, environmental harm, lost toll revenues, and broader economic impacts.
The disaster caused six fatalities, injuries, and significant disruption to the Port of Baltimore and surrounding communities. The settlement follows legal efforts to challenge attempts by the vessel interests to limit liability under the Limitation of Liability Act of 1851. The State confirmed that claims against the shipbuilder, Hyundai Heavy Industries, remain ongoing following findings by the National Transportation Safety Board.
